President of Kazakhstan met with members of Council of CIS Heads of Government

Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev met with members of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS countries, the press service of Akorda reported.

The meeting was attended by Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan B. Sagintayev, Azerbaijan N. Mamedov, Belarus S. Rumas, Kyrgyzstan M. Abylgaziyev, Tajikistan K. Rasulzoda, Uzbekistan A. Aripov, Chairman of the Government of Russia D. Medvedev, First Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia A. Mirzoyan, Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan G. Muradov, Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS S. Lebedev.

After welcoming the heads of the delegations of the CIS countries, the President of Kazakhstan emphasized the special significance of the meeting of the Council in strengthening cooperation of the Commonwealth states.

“Today you will take part in the regular meeting within the Council of Heads of Government. The agenda of the meeting included 15 specific practical issues. I am sure that this event will contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial relations”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

The Head of State noted the importance of developing trade and economic ties between the CIS countries.

“For more than a quarter of a century, the CIS took place as a full-fledged organization that allowed preserving historical ties between our peoples and helped strengthen the sovereignty of each country. Today, cooperation within the Commonwealth has become even more significant. Mutual trade within the CIS continues to grow. Last year, turnover amounted to 164 billion dollars, an increase of 25%. A similar trend continues this year”, the President of Kazakhstan said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also focused on the results of the last meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State.

“We considered the issues of strengthening our organization. They included promotion of the process of its modernization, aimed at improving the efficiency of work and adaptation to modern realities. In order to expand economic cooperation within the Commonwealth, the need to update the Economic Development Strategy and accelerate the adopted projects of the Agreement on Free Trade in CIS countries was noted”, the Head of State stated.

In addition, the President of Kazakhstan spoke about the outcome of the discussion of new proposals made during the meeting of the Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe. Among them, the removal of trade barriers within the Commonwealth, improving the efficiency of interaction in the transport and logistics and tourism sectors, the implementation of projects in the space industry, the development of the digital economy and the use of innovative solutions.

“The integration of technology parks and the implementation of joint innovation projects will provide a major synergistic effect for the creation of high-tech production in the CIS. Western countries are actively using the Internet in 5G format, without which the functioning of artificial intelligence is impossible. We should deal with its development. Each of us will not be able to do this separately”, the Head of State emphasized.

At the end of his speech, Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed to the need for practical work on the implementation of the proposals put forward at the Council of Heads of State.

“An important task is to develop a complex of effective measures in all directions. The implementation of these initiatives will not only contribute to economic development, but will also be an important factor in strengthening friendly and stable relations between our states”, the President of Kazakhstan said.

During the meeting, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan B. Sagintayev and Chairman of the Government of Russia D. Medvedev also spoke.
