New Minister of Finance appointed
"To appoint Smailov Alikhan Askhanovich as the Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan, having dismissed the post of the Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan", the decree of the Head of State reads.
Alikhan Smailov was born in 1972. In 1994 he graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh State National University in the specialty "Applied mathematics", in 1996 - Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Forecasting under the President of Kazakhstan. He was awarded a master's degree in public administration.
In 1993-1999 he worked as a chief specialist in the investment-privatization fund "A-Invest"; deputy head of the department, head of the department of the National Statistical Agency of Kazakhstan; Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Statistics and Analysis of the Agency for Statistical Planning and Reforms of Kazakhstan; chief expert, head of the economic sector of the department, state inspector of the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan.
1999-2003 - Chairman of the Agency of Statistics of Kazakhstan.
2003-2006 - Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Board of "State Insurance Company for Insurance of Export Credits and Investments" JSC.
2006-2009 - Vice Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan, President of the "KazAgro" National Company.
2009-2014 - Chairman of the Agency of Statistics of Kazakhstan.
2014-2015 - Chairman of the Committee on Statistics of the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan.
In December 2015 he was appointed Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan by the Decree of the Head of State.
