Labor protection: number of industrial injuries decreased by 7% since the beginning of 2018
For the first quarter of 2018, the number of industrial injuries compared to the same period last year decreased by 7% and amounted to 317 people. These data were voiced by Akmadi Sarbassov, a Chairman of the Labor, Social Protection and Migration Committee.
The head of the Committee noted that in Kazakhstan, according to the authorized body out of 1.7 million employees surveyed in 2017 on working conditions, 370 thousand people or one fourth (23.0%) were employed in harmful and dangerous working conditions.
"Almost every second (44.2%) worked under the conditions of increased noise and vibration, each third (33.7%) under the influence of increased gas contamination and dustiness of the working area. 84.6 thousand people (5.1% of the number of employees of the enterprises surveyed) were engaged in heavy physical labor", Akmadi Sarbassov said.
He stressed that one of the important areas of the state control is the provision of safe working conditions, drawing attention to the positive dynamics of a decrease in the number of victims over the past three years by 16%.
"In the context of the branches of the economy, the largest number of victims is noted at the enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex - 16.0% and the construction industry - 15.2%", Sarbassov said.
The results of the state control show that over the past 5 years more than 30% of the violations identified are in the field of safety and labor protection. According to the results of 2017, the state labor inspectors of the regions carried out 9,920 inspections, revealed 14,892 violations, including 41,122 in the field of safety and labor protection. At the request of the state labor inspectors, 298 officials were dismissed from their posts, 22 equipment and production facilities were banned; activities of 15 organizations.
For reference: according to the latest data of the International Labor Organization (ILO), 2.78 million workers die every year due to accidents at work and work-related diseases. Of these, 2.4 million (86.3 percent) die as a result of work-related diseases, and 380,000 (13.7 percent) as a result of occupational accidents.
It should be noted that on April 26-27 this year Astana will host the 8th Kazakhstan International Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Industrial Safety, which will consider the issues of uniting the efforts of government agencies, businesses and public organizations aimed at reducing injuries at enterprises, reducing the risk of accidents at production facilities, and minimizing possible damage to the environment and society, prevention of occupational diseases, increase in labor productivity.
