Kazakhstan's President spoke at meeting of UN Security Council
Opening the meeting, the Head of State welcomed UN Secretary-General A. Guterres, President of the Republic of Poland A. Duda and other heads of delegations of the UN Security Council Member States.
"Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate President Duda on the beginning of the non-permanent membership of Poland in the UN Security Council. I also congratulate Côte d'Ivoire, Kuwait, Peru and Equatorial Guinea that have joined the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council this year. I express hope for our productive cooperation and cooperation within this important body of the World Organization", said the President of Kazakhstan.
According to the approved agenda, Nursultan Nazarbayev gave the floor to the UN Secretary General. After the speech of A. Guterres, the Head of State addressed the Council members.
"We consider the election of Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and our current presidency as the confidence of the world community in our country and in its peace-loving policy. Being the first Central Asian state in this position, we became the "voice" of the peoples of our region in this important body of the World Organization", said the President of Kazakhstan.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted Kazakhstan's contribution to the work of the UN Security Council during the past year.
"Leading the Committees on Afghanistan/the Taliban, ISIS/DAISH and Al-Qaida, Somalia/Eritrea, we make our contribution to their productive work. I express my gratitude to all member states of the Council for close cooperation", said the Head of State.
The President of Kazakhstan stressed that confidence-building measures aimed at achieving peace and security goals play a key role in preventing conflicts and solving urgent global problems.
"From the grandstand of the 47th session of the UN General Assembly, I proposed a regional structure on security and confidence-building measures in Asia. As a result of painstaking diplomatic work, this mechanism was created. At present, the CICA successfully operates, uniting 26 states of the region. After a quarter of a century, I again appear in the UN on behalf of Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the Security Council", said Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The Head of State pointed to the need to maintain confidence measures in the agenda and named a number of factors contributing to this. The President of Kazakhstan stressed the need for profound mental changes and new multilateral political decisions on strengthening the non-proliferation regime based on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
In this regard, Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed a number of measures aimed at strengthening confidence in the sphere of non-proliferation.
At the end of the speech, the Head of State focused on the importance of establishing mutual understanding and mutual trust between the world's nuclear powers for the effective resolution of conflicts.
"The world community is a only body that is strong in its diversity that can survive and develop in the presence of balance and harmony among the nations inhabiting our planet and peoples. That is why we must work together to achieve a safer world and a more equitable world order based on the supremacy of international law. Undoubtedly, the UN Security Council has a special role and historical mission in this matter", said the President of Kazakhstan.
President of Poland A. Duda, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affiars of Russia S. Lavrov also spoke at the meeting of the Council.
