Central Asia contributes to stabilize situation in world - Y. Ashikbayev

4 January, 2018 17:39
The issues of the Central Asian issues are not included in the formal agenda of the UN Security Council. It was reported by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev at a press-conference in the Central Communications Service.

"The issues of the Central Asian problems are not included in the formal agenda of the Security Council, and there is a reasonable cause to it. The situation in all of these countries is without any threat to international peace and security. Therefore, Central Asia as a whole is a peaceful, stable region that contributes to the stabilization of the situation not only on the Asian continent, but also in the world", Yerzhan Ashikbayev said.

He specified that each of the countries of the Central Asian region is an active participant in international efforts to counter challenges and threats to international stability and security.

Yerzhan Ashikbayev at the same time stressed that Afghanistan should not be considered solely as a threat to peace and security in relation to Central Asia.

"Afghanistan is one of the serious opportunities for the diversification of our economies. As you know, all the countries of Central Asia are countries that do not have access to the open sea. Thus, they are dependent on their neighbors. Sooner or later the situation in Afghanistan and the efforts made by the international community will give results. The country cannot be in decline and ruin indefinitely. We believe that the Afghan people will make their choice in favor of peace and stability, this will open significant prospects for countries of Central Asia, including Kazakhstan", the Deputy Minister summed up.

We note, during the briefing Yerzhan Ashikbayev said that on January 18, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will give a speech at the event within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Security Council.
