Kazakhstan takes part in three sanctions committees of UN Security Council
"Kazakhstan's work in the chairmanship in the Security Council cannot be separated from the work that our country conducted during the first year of its membership. First of all, we are talking about the implementation of seven priorities, ranging from achieving a world without nuclear weapons, countering terrorism and extremism, creating stability and security in Central Asia to issues of sustainable development. We can say that the Kazakhstani delegation made a significant contribution already in the first year of its membership in this important body", Yerzhan Ashikbayev said.
It should be noted that Kazakhstan co-authored 11 resolutions, took an active part in the development of 61 resolutions of the UN Security Council, 27 presidential statements, as well as other documents of the Security Council.
"First of all, the work of the Kazakhstani delegation in New York is not limited to the headquarters. The agenda of the Security Council is comprehensive, with over 50 active "hot" questions. Our delegates visited the United Nations Security Council mission to Colombia, Haiti, Central Africa, the Sahel region, Singapore, Malaysia, Washington, Addis Ababa. In addition, Kazakhstan works in three sanctions committees as chairman in the Committees in the Security Council. These are the committees for the Taliban, ISIL, Daish, Al-Qaeda and the Sanctions Committee of Somalia. Very active work by our delegates are being done in these committees. Our chairmanship is a natural continuation of all the work that Kazakhstan diplomacy conducts both in the daily routine and in terms of implementation, indicated by the Head of State", the Deputy Minister said.
According to Yerzhan Ashikbayev, the first events were already held, which received wide coverage in the world press.
One of the novels of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the UN Security Council was the ceremony of raising the flags of six new member countries.
From January 1 to January 31, 2018 for the first time in history Kazakhstan chairs in the United Nations Security Council.
We note that from January 1, 2017, the Republic of Kazakhstan began to work in the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member for the coming two-year period.
During his work in the Council, Kazakhstan intends to make a feasible contribution to the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation, conflicts in the Middle East, Afghanistan, the CIS, the de-escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, and the resolution of crises in Africa and Asia.
