30 May, 2017 12:34
The National Academic Library of Astana is a main driver of modernization of the library system. This was stated by Minister of Culture and Sport Arystanbek Mukhamediuly during a meeting with the Public Council on Culture and Sports.

Today it is a leading intellectual center of the capital, its funds hold more than 7 million publications, 30 thousand electronic copies are available in the network of KazNEL, whose services are annually used by over 60 thousand people from 116 countries.

A regional e-hub has been created at the initiative of the library, and access to the foreign audiences has also been ensured. The Centers of Kazakh Literature have been opened in China, Turkey, Russia, Finland, Korea, Armenia, Malaysia, Hungary and Kyrgyzstan. The international project "Library Tourism" was launched for the first time.

The Minister also said that the work is in progress with the regions to revive and preserve the unique settlements and create archaeological parks, among them "Saraishyk", "Talgar", "Bozok", "Botai", etc. In general, for two years over 50 restorative and restoration work on monuments of history and culture was carried out. All this work is the basis for the implementation of the "Sacral Geography of Kazakhstan" project.

For the first time since 2014, 15 objects of tangible and intangible heritage of Kazakhstan have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, among them 8 objects of Zhetysu part of the Silk Way (Talgar, Koilyk, Karamergen, Stepninskoye, Ornek, Kulan, Kostobe, Akyrtas). This year it is planned to include 16 objects of Syrdarya segment.

In addition, the UNESCO Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures, which will be the first official representative of the UNESCO in Central Asia, was opened on the basis of the UNESCO Museum Resolution last year on the basis of the State Book Museum in Almaty.

"In general, this significantly expands the boundaries and geography of Kazakhstan's recognition in the world", the Minister concluded.

According to the Minister, over 13 million people visited cultural facilities in 2016. There are over 8 thousand cultural organizations in the country, 34 of them have the status of republican: 10 theaters, 3 libraries, 15 museums and museums-reserves, 6 concert organizations.

"The most important task is to raise the competitiveness of cultural institutions and the quality of services provided. In this regard, the traditional format of the work of all republican cultural organizations has undergone serious changes", A. Mukhamediuly said.

For example, museums and museums-reserves were transferred from state institutions to state-owned state enterprises, which enabled them to provide paid services, sell souvenirs, books, albums, etc., and all central museums received licenses for research.
