420 objects are included in Interactive Accessibility Map for Persons with Disabilities in capital

Within the framework of the Action Plan on Ensuring Rights and Improving Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities in the Republic of Kazakhstan in the city of Astana, work is underway to certify facilities for accessibility for people with disabilities, the Mayor’s Office of the capital reports.

Data on certification and adaptation of objects are entered in the Interactive Access Map (friendlybuilding.kz). To date, 420 objects have been included, including: health care - 35; education - 129; culture - 27; sports - 6; social protection - 3; passenger transport - 27; residential buildings - 21.

It should be noted that the total number of objects subject to certification is 1,106 units, work has been carried out since 2012 by specially created working groups.

For the current year 705 objects (104 passportized) are subject to certification and 809 objects have been adapted (by regions: Almaty - 243, Saryarka - 340, Yessil - 185).

Currently, 20,945 disabled people live in the capital, of whom children with disabilities under 18 years old – 3,857 people.

"Since the beginning of 2017, at the expense of local and republican budgets, the city's disabled have been provided with social assistance for the total of 460 million tenge, including 3,506 persons with limited opportunities covered by rehabilitation services," the report says.

Measures have also been taken to adapt the city's road network: 1,061 burning panels at 135 traffic lights, 84 light modules for pedestrians, 70 road signs for disabled people. Work was carried out to replace 25 stop pavilions on covered insulated pavilions with laying of ground tactile plates. 36 stop places for personal transport of persons with disabilities are equipped. Work on the adaptation of the road transport network continues, in particular, the arrangement of congresses on bicycle paths and sidewalks.

Out of 1,025 buses 609 are equipped with a folding device (ladder) for easy landing and disembarkation of disabled wheelchair users, 380 buses have been purchased additionally, which will be delivered by June 1 of the current year.
