Access to inland water ways of EAEU countries can be simplified

An Agreement on navigation will facilitate the access to the inland waterways of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was told by director of the Department of Transport and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Maksim Asaul during the High-level Conference on Inland Water Transport of the European Economic Commission in Geneva.

"The Agreement on navigation is an international treaty of the Union countries. It is developed in order to create a common market of transport services in the field of water transport of the EAEU. Thanks to the document the access to inland waterways of the Union countries must simplify due to the abolition of the permit system. In addition, conditions for the smooth increase in transit traffic, including along the Volga-Don canal with an access to the pools of the Azov and Black Seas will be created", M. Asaul said.

The representative of the Commission also paid attention to the considerable promotion of the countries of the union in creation of the single market of services in the field of lease and leasing of pleasure crafts without operator that was promoted to a great extent by fixed dialogue with UNEEC. The development of the navigation for pleasure in the Eurasian Economic Union will expand opportunities for travel both between the union countries and between the states of Europe and Asia.

The event was attended by the Ministers of Transport of the countries of the UNEEC region as well as representatives of the European Commission, the River Commissions and other key stakeholders.
