Mayor: Astana to switch to energy-efficient street lighting since 2017 | Strategy2050.kz

"For 2017 we have a number of projects in five areas that we want to implement in the first place, even though we will work in parallel with other projects. The first project is the "smart street lighting". Here with the mechanism of the PPP we are planning to replace the old street lamps, 90% of which with sodium lamps will be replaced by more modern energy efficient lamps, more than 25 thousand lamps", A. Issekeshev has told.

According to the Mayor, the change will reduce and save on energy costs and operation by more than 60% and increase the safety of the city.

"The project is important not only because it changes the lighting, and the fact that the urban infrastructure is created for the Internet things and allows to use 10 additional services of "smart city".  Most importantly, the project will be implemented at the expense of private investments, the investors will return their funds at the expense of 60% of the economy", the Mayor of the city has informed.

According to A. Issekeshev, Smart Astana program is focused on a pragmatic approach, in other words the projects that will quickly show a social or economic benefit.

Overall, the program "smart city" has two key areas: the simplification of public services for business and citizens - "the city administration for the citizens", the transition to personalized proactive services - "the open city administration" and the second – the social orientation.

According to the Mayor, from 5 to 10 billion tenge will be spent on the implementation of these projects. 80% of which are private investments on the model of public-private partnership. By the way, investors have already shown interest.

The city authorities say that the PPP model can effectively and transparently implement the project, the load is removed from the local budget, at the same time, the opportunities for the development of small businesses are created.
