21 large-scale RES entities commissioned in Kazakhstan last year
Currently, there are 90 operating entities of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan with a total capacity of 1,050.1 MW (19 wind farms –283.8 MW; 31 solar power plants –541.7 MW; 37 hydroelectric power stations –222.2 MW; 3 bioelectric power stations –– 2.42 MW), Strategy2050.kz refers to the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Energy.
Since the beginning of 2019, 21 renewable energy facilities with a capacity of 504.55 MW were commissioned. This year, the number of renewable energy sources is planned to be increased from 90 to 108 projects, with a total capacity of 1655 MW.
It should be noted that since 2018, the selection for the implementation of renewable energy projects has been carried out through the auction mechanism. This mechanism made it possible, on the one hand, to make the process of selecting projects and investors transparent and understandable, and, on the other hand, to bet on more efficient technologies and projects that minimize the impact on the tariffs of final consumers from commissioning renewable energy capacities.
The international auctions of 2018 - 2019 were held in an electronic format for renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 1 205 MW.
138 companies from 12 countries took part in the auctions: Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Turkey, Germany, France, Bulgaria, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Spain. The auction bidders proposed applications for the implementation of the projects with an installed capacity of 3893.52 MW, which exceeded demand by 3.2 times.
As a result of the auctions, 30 companies signed contracts with a single purchaser of electricity for renewable energy for 15 years for a total capacity of 804.3 MW and 12 companies at the stage of signing contracts for a total capacity of 162.89 MW.
In addition, it should be noted that there was a decrease in electricity tariffs for wind power plants on average at the request of bidders by 10.6%, small hydropower plants by 14.5%, solar power plants by 36%. At the same time, the maximum tariff reduction for individual projects amounted to 51% for SPP, 23% for wind farms and hydroelectric power stations.
