20.5 thousand work permits for foreigners issued in 2019 in Kazakhstan
As of November 1, 2019, there have been 20 thousand 557 permits in Kazakhstan for attracting foreign labour, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of Kazakhstan.
They include 816 permits for first category (managers and their deputies), 4 595 - second category (heads of structural units). Permits for third (specialists) and fourth (skilled workers) categories have been given to most of the foreign workforce – 9 656 and 1 769 respectively. 2 156 foreigners have engaged in seasonal work, and 1 565 under corporate transfer.
“Kazakhstan has 2 210 employers hiring foreign labour, as well as 518.8 thousand Kazakh citizens, making up 96%,” they in the Ministry said.
Labour migrants mainly arrive from China - 4 397 people, Uzbekistan - 2 254, India - 1 819, Turkey - 1 845, Great Britain - 1 420.
Of note, in an effort to protect the domestic labour market, the Kazakh Government annually establishes a quota for foreign specialists, equalling 0.54% of the economically active population (about 48.7 thousand people) in 2019.
