2 men detained in Almaty for attempt to organize terrorist acts - NSC

The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan has stopped an attempt to carry out terrorist attacks in the country, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Committee.
It is reported that on February 14, 2020, as a result of operational-search measures in Almaty, 2 adherents of a destructive religious movement were arrested.
“During the investigative actions at their place of residence, a homemade explosive device with striking elements, components for its manufacture, blade weapons, smartphones with photos and videos of alleged objects for attack were seized”, the NSC reports.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against these persons on the facts of preparation for an act of terrorism (Article 255 of the Criminal Code) and propaganda of terrorism (Article 256 of the Criminal Code).
“According to the materials of the investigation, the arrested persons prepared terrorist acts on the territory of the country, including in crowded places. The investigation is ongoing”, the press release reads.
