19 thousand foreigners work in Kazakhstan
As of January 1, 2020, 19,145 foreign citizens are engaged in labor activities in the territory of Kazakhstan with the permission of local executive bodies, Strategy2050.kz reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population.
Among them, the first category (managers and their deputies) includes 770 people (4%), the second (heads of departments) - 4,445 (23%), the third (specialists) - 9,632 (50%), the fourth (skilled workers) - 1,818 (9%), 767 (4%) - seasonal workers, 1,744 people (9%) were involved in the corporate transfer.
The number of employers who attracted foreign labor is 2,040, with 508,785 Kazakhstani citizens working, which is 96.3% of the total number of employees.
The largest number of foreigners work in the construction industry - 8623 people (45%). 2,231 people (12%) work in the mining industry, 55 (0.3%) in the agriculture, forestry and fishery spheres, 1,557 foreigners (8%) are involved in professional, scientific, and technical activities, and 1 397 (7%) - in the manufacturing industry.
The main countries of origin of labor migrants are: China - 4 524 people (24%), Uzbekistan - 781 (4%), Turkey - 1 964 (10%), India - 1 893 (10%), Great Britain - 1 368 (7%).
It should be noted that the Government of Kazakhstan annually sets a quota for attracting foreign specialists to the country in order to protect the domestic labor market. The quota for 2019 was approved in the amount of 0.54% in relation to the number of labor force or 48.7 thousand individuals. For 2020 - 29.3 thousand individuals or 0.32%.
