Over 178 bln tenge of investment planned to attract in power sector in 2015

Over 178 billion tenge of investment is planned to attract in the power sector in 2015, Energy Minister Vladimir Shkolnik said during the governmental hour in the Majilis.

"During six years of realization of the program of maximum tariffs, the annual investment in the power industry has increased five times. To date, about 700 billion tenge has been invested. It allowed to upgrade 5,000 MW of existing capacity, introduce 1,700 MW new additional power capacities. It will completely cover the needs of the economy in electricity", Vladimir Shkolnik said.

According to the Ministry, the planned volume of investments in 2015 will amount to 178 billion tenge.

"The import of electricity at the end of 2014 amounted to 644 million kilowatt hours, the export-2.9 billion kilowatt hours. In 2014, the electricity consumption amounted to 91.6 billion kilowatt hours, or 102% compared to last year. The electricity generation was 93.9 billion kilowatt hours", the Minister said.

Also, as noted Vladimir Shkolnik, the annual number of emergency shutdowns of large power plants decreased from 131 in 2008 to 39 cases in 2013. During the period from 2009 to 2015 the introduction of additional capacity will reach 3.3 thousand MW.
