Kazakhstan seeks friendship strengthening with Uzbekistan

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, who arrived in Kazakhstan with an official visit, the press service of Akorda reported.

During the meeting in a narrow format the two leaders considered the implementation of agreements reached during the visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev to Uzbekistan in June 2013. The interlocutors discussed the priority areas of bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, water and energy, transport, cultural and humanitarian sphere.

In addition, the sides touched upon key aspects of regional security, as well as the most pressing international issues.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that historically and culturally Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are close states.

“Being neighbors we duly built our relationship in terms of independence. Kazakhstan supports Uzbekistan in all its endeavors. We intend to strengthen the friendship between the two countries, expand trade, develop relationships, including on the internal and external security, and in all other directions. In our countries now closely watching these negotiations, because of the position and the mutual work of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan depends on the stability and development of the entire region,"  the Kazakh  Leader stated.

In turn, the Uzbek President stressed rapidly changing global environment 

"In these circumstances, each country seeks  support, refines plans and draws on  close neighbors. For us, Kazakhstan is  the closest country, close to the people, who in the trials and joyful days has always been with us. We have always resorted to help each other. I would like to express my very great respect for the Kazakh people, move confidently towards prosperity. We need to meet more often in order to "compare notes" and jointly determine future prospects," Mr. Karimov noted.
