CU states’ Leaders, Ukraine President and EU reps met in Belarus
Implementation of the Association Agreement concluded between Ukraine and the European Union, and ways to stabilize the situation in the Donbas were on the agenda of the meeting.
President of Kazakhstan noted the importance of this meeting holding.
"The situation in Ukraine has exceeded the bounds of one country and has acquired an international dimension, reaching a critical point. A further increase in tension can lead to unpredictable consequences not only regionally but also globally, that is a danger to the whole world,” the Kazakh Leader said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the responsibility is important while decision making and informed Kazakhstan calls for urgent resolution of the humanitarian disaster in eastern Ukraine.
"Now we need to ensure, first of all, a large-scale humanitarian assistance to the affected community of Ukraine. The Russian Federation has already started to do it. International organizations, including the countries of the Customs Union and the CIS should be involved in this process.
In turn, Kazakhstan is ready to provide all possible support, including from the Red Cross and Crescent.
The organization can also act as a neutral intermediary in the convoy of humanitarian aid of other countries. In general, today, it is important to ensure an impartial international control over the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Therefore, I urge the conflicting sides to declare a truce for the duration of assistance to suffering people,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The Head of State also stressed the necessity of de-escalation of the conflict and non-power options for resolving the crisis.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also noted that not only the south-east of Ukraine needs the full support of the international community but the whole Ukrainian economy as well.
According to President of Kazakhstan, the country welcomes the intention to discuss at the meeting the conditions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
"It is important that this document as much as possible take into account the interests of its neighbors, including the Customs Union. In this regard, we welcome the open dialogue and are willing to exchange views," the President Nazarbayev added.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the meeting - a unique opportunity to search for the best ways to overcome the very large-scale crisis in the region.
In conclusion the Kazakhstan's President expressed the hope that the dialogue that has begun will stabilize the situation in Ukraine and in the whole region.
