Kazakhstan and ASEAN eager to strengthen cooperation

Kazakh Foreign Minister of Yerlan Idrissov met with ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), accredited in Kazakhstan in Astana today.

The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Kazakhstan Nguyễn Văn Hoa, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in the Republic of Kazakhstan Foster Gultom, Malaysian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Datuk Hidayat Abdul Hamid.

The event  was devoted  to the issues of cooperation of Kazakhstan in the framework of ASEAN and the preparation for the upcoming tour of  Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan on the countries of South-East Asia (Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore) and the participation in the 6th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations (Bali, Indonesia) and the UN Summit on small Island States (Apia, Samoa).

 “A strong win-win relationship should be established  between the CICA and ASEAN which are aimed at the strengthening mutual understanding and security in Asia,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan noted.

Kazakhstan, as the initiator of the CICA is in favor of signing Memorandum of Understanding between the CICA and the ASEAN, and hoped that a number of the Association’s organization  in the near future will be included in the CICA as members or observers.
