Kazakhstan took part in ESCAP 70th session

The Kazakh delegation participated in the 70th session of the economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP UN) on theme “Regional interconnection for common prosperity.” The meeting was attended by representatives of 40 ESCAP associated member states, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The session was focused on a role of the regional inclusion to economic growth and development support, in particular three aspects of the sustainable social, economic and ecologic development.

Speaking at the ministerial session, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to ESCAP Marat Yessenbayev informed on socio-economic priorities of the country in the context of the Strategy “Kazakhstan-2050”, establishment of the  Eurasian Economic Union, investment climate  strengthening.

In addition, cooperation between Kazakhstan and ESCAP and Asia –Pacific region on global  issues of  food, water security and energy, disasters’ risks prevention, Asian Action Plan for landlocked countries, SPEKA Program and Green Bridge Partnership Program were stressed  in his report.

Mr. Yessenbayev met with Deputy UN Secretary General - ESCAP Executive secretary A. Shakhtar to talked over implementation of joint projects programs relating  development of  transport infrastructure, Green Bridge Partnership Program, Almaty  Emergencies’ Center  establishment  and  realization of  the Asian Action Plan for landlocked countries, outcomes of which will be considered at the second UN conference for landlocked countries on November 3-5, 2014 in Vienna, Austria

The special attention was paid to water resources management in basins of trans border rivers. A. Shakhtar proposed expert assistance for the solving of water deficit in Central Asia.

Following the meeting, the ESCAP approved 12 resolutions, three of them were imitated by Kazakhstan.
