E Kazakhstan celebrates Abay Day

“Day of Abay” solemn meeting devoted to the 169th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev was held at the central square of Ust-Kamenogorsk city near the Abay Monument, the Information Center of East Kazakhstanregion reported.
The event was organized with the support of regional offices of E Kazakhstan regional administration to promote the Kazakh culture, language and literature.
As a part of celebration, the famous singers sang songs of Abay. Also the winners of the regional competition Abay readings, which are traditionally held every year among young people of other nationalities, read poems and words of edification by A. Kunanbayev.
