National Museum of Kazakhstan reflection of past, present and future (PHOTO ESSAY)

Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev attended a solemn opening of the Kazakhstan’s National Museum which took place on July 2 this year in Astana. The opening ceremony was devoted to Day of Capital.
“The National Museum of Kazakhstan will become a scientific spiritual center and reflect the progress of the Kazakhstani way,” the President stated.

The total area of the Museum, consisting of seven blocks of different floor (from two to eight floors) is 74 thousand square meters. The National Museum includes Astana Hall, Kazakhstan's Independence Hall, Gold Halls, Hall of ancient and medieval history, History Hall, Ethnography Hall, and Halls of Modern Art.

Works of the Kazakh Artists Yerbolat Tolepbai, series of epic panel pictures “Mangilik Yel” including 12 parts which reflects in the Zhanargan dala (Renewed steppe), Anyrkay ( Name of the Battle ) and Tagdyr (Fate ) triptych are presented tin the Museum’s atrium.

The WOW moment of the Museum is hover gold bird symbolizing creative urge and freedom.

The largest map of Kazakhstan with charted regions and cities.

The hall of the Independent Kazakhstan presents a history of modern art- since declaring independence in 1991 to this day.

Electronic book including writings of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and books about the Kazakh Leader exposed in the hall.

State symbols of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President’s Standard, Constitution of Kazakhstan adopted in 1995 are also presented in the exhibition.

The separate stand is devoted to the state awards of Kazakhstan- “Khalyk Kaharmany”, “Parasat”, “Altyn Kyran”, Otan”, “Dank” Orders etc. Monetary symbols, passports, stamps issued in Kazakhstan.

Big LED -screens and touch-sensitive data marts display infographics and historical documents, reflecting implementation of all President’s Addresses in field of national and foreign policy of state over the independent years.

Sculpture “New epoch of Kazakhstan” by M. Baimukhanov, B. Kulzhabayev, A. Chernigin made from bronze and aluminum and including four compositions - “Motherland” “Assembly of People of Kazakhstan”, “Congress of the World and Traditional Religions”, “Competitive youth” is associated with a new history of Kazakhstan.


Modern Art Hall presents works of the different generations whose oeuvre belongs to most topical directions of the Kazakhstani visual art of this period.

Several works by the Kazakh sculptor Yerkin Mergenov exhibited in the hall. This installation is titled “Monster.”

Another work by Y. Mergenov. According to the Museum’s personnel it has created waves in due time.

This work has been made from nails. It is author’s unusual vision of the Astana city during the day and the nighttime.




The Ethnography Hall is on the third floor. It is devoted to the traditional culture of the Kazakh people.

The sky effect is projected above the yurt. Circle vision, narrating on the traditional aul, is installed around.

The Federal State Institution of Culture of the State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSIZO presents exposition “Four epochs of the Russian painting.”

"The exhibition is an intimate museum of Russian painting, as all the works cover the period from the XVIII to XXI century. Almost four hundred years of history of Russian national artistic tradition represented by I Repin, V. Vereshagin, I Aivazovsky, Y. Anenkov, O. Rozanova and others.

The exhibition “Textiles of Central Asia and Caucasus-heritage of the Great Silk Road representing ethnographic monuments from the collection of the Russian Museum of Ethnography became another joint project.

Unfortunately we have no opportunity to visit all halls of the Museum due to retrofit.

The Museum is new indeed, so we oversaw the work of the construction team.

In conclusion of the exhibition, anybody who wants to can write in customer charter.
The National Museum is open daily 10: 30- 18:00, except on Mondays. Admission free.
