10 interesting historic facts about Astana: Kenesary Khan warriors’ mass grave (PHOTOS)

Archaeologists have discovered a mass grave of soldiers in the heart of the capital of Kazakhstan. Inscription written in the Arabic script means, more than 200 batyrs - military leaders of the Kenesary Kahn – the last Kazakh Khan, have been buried in this place in the middle of the 19th century.

A unique artefact is located on the old Muslim cemetery located near Molodezhny district. According to director of the Institute of Contemporary Studies at the Eurasian National University named after Gumilev Mukhit-Ardager Sydyknazarov group of researchers found a tombstone with the inscription written in Arabic script.

Experts have not yet deciphered the entire inscription. Part of the old plate is underground. The scientists say that this finding may be the most important archaeological discovery in the country over the past two decades.

It should be noted that the inscription corresponds to the historical facts: in the middle of 1838 the army of Kenesary Khan was near Akmola region. On August 7, 1838 there had been a battle two thousandth army of the Kenesary. It is possible remains of soldiers who died in that period are  buried  in this mass grave .
