Kazakhstan & US talked over nuclear power and safety

A meeting of Chairman of the Atomic Energy Committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies Mazhit Sharipov and the US Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman - co-chairman of the Joint Kazakh-American Commission on energy partnership was held in Astana.

The meeting was focused on positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation development in nuclear safety and nuclear power, according to the authority.

During the meeting they discussed the main issues and results of conversion of research reactors RSE "Institute of Nuclear Physics" and «National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan"; to create a training center for nuclear security on the basis of RSE "Institute of Nuclear Physics"; to establish an international bank of low-enriched uranium at the  premises of  "UMZ" JSC; on nuclear regulation in Kazakhstan. 

Earlier, these collaborations were noted in the Joint Statement of the Presidents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United States on cooperation in the sphere of non-proliferation and to strengthen nuclear safety at the Nuclear Security Summit in March 2014.
