PM instructs to finish major road projects throughout 2020

A governmental meeting on the road industry’s development under the Nurly Zhol state program for 2020-2025 has taken place chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, primeminister.kz reports.

The reports on preparations for the construction season in the road sector, bitumen supplies, measures for ensuring labor protection and safety measures, and issuing quotas for attracting foreign labour, compliance with environmental standards, training local workers for the ongoing projects, the road projects have been heard.

Last year saw 4.4 thousand kilometers of roads of national importance being repaired and reconstructed, and traffic on 641 km of the road was put in operation. Overhaul and medium repairs were carried out on 1.1 thousand kilometers of the roads, and 3.5 thousand kilometers of the local network. The share of the roads in good and satisfactory condition reached up to 88%, local roads - up to 71%. The length of the roads of national importance of I and II technical category was increased to 34% (8.2 thousand km).

The 2020 budget of the road industry is 750 billion tenge. 9.8 thousand km of national and local roads are due to be repaired, while over 4 thousand km of roads will be constructed.

Road sections with a total length of 2.6 thousand km, including Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk (763 km), Karaganda-Balkhash-Kapshagay (645 km), Kalbatau-Maykapshagay (415 km), Merke-Burylbaytal (266 km), Aktobe-Atyrau-Astrakhan (279 km) are slated for launch by the year’s end.

Total 100 thousand people will be involved in road construction works. There are plans to attract investments to construct 18 multifunctional category A roadside service complexes, installation and maintenance of 304 sanitary and hygienic units.

“Huge work on the construction of roads is about to be completed this year. It is essential to prepare in advance for the construction season to timely and efficiently fulfill the tasks and ensure that the main projects for the modernization of roads are completed by the end of the year,” the PM said.
