Kazakh PM orders to develop 5G efficiency projects, speed up rural areas’ access to high-speed internet
The Government session chaired by the PM has considered the issues of providing the rural areas with broadband internet and 5G development, Strategy2050.kz informs with reference to the primeminister.kz.
In line with the tasks put forward by the National Leader at the 18th Nur Otan Party Congress and the Head of State’s 2 September 2019 state of the nation address to the people, the upgrading of social and engineering infrastructure in rural areas is ongoing under the Auyl - Yel besigi project.
Over 5 thousand rural settlements, or 97%, will be connected to internet by 2022, allowing for access to e-public services, medical services and education, e-commerce, as well as a full-fledged transition to new living standards.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry has embarked on the construction of fibre-optic connection lines in rural areas (1250 rural settlements until 2020 inclusive) and coverage of LTE and wireless telematics networks (6019 rural settlements). The new 5G network is under development to ensure wireless broadband access, internet of things and high-speed technology as it is being tested in Nur-Sultan and Almaty, and slated for testing in Shymkent in October.
The Head of the Kazakh Government has directed the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry jointly with communication operators to speed up the work on constructing fibre-optic communication lines in the regions and connecting rural settlements to high-speed internet.
“We must ensure the implementation of the National Leader and the Head of State’s instructions to provide rural areas with high-speed internet. The work should be completed as scheduled – by 2022,” Askar Mamin said.
The Prime Minister marked the need for the prioritization of 5G, requiring 5G efficiency projects in the regions by 2020, and initially in the city of Nur-Sultan.
The Kazakh PM has also dwelled on the quality of communication and internet, especially in social facilities.
“Schools and hospitals have to have quality internet with high-speed for e-books and curriculum, telemedicine and information systems,” he concluded.
