Al-Farabi Centre opened in Vilnius
A Centre named after Abu Nasr al-Farabi was opened in the Lithuanian House of National Communities as part of the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of the outstanding thinker and scientist, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the Kazakh MFA’s press service.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Margulan Baimukhan, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Lithuania Viktor Temirbayev, Director of the Department of National Minorities under the Government of Lithuania Vida Montvydaitė, Director of the House of National Communities A. Gedaminskiene, Chairwoman of “Nursaule” Kazakh Society in Lithuanian S. Kanapina, representatives of the Council of National Communities and turkologists of Lithuania.
M. Baimukhan emphasized that the anniversary of the great thinker of the East is included in the calendar of memorable dates and events of UNESCO and will be widely celebrated on an international scale.
The Kazakh diplomat also noted that the legacy of Al-Farabi, like al-Biruni, became the starting point for the formation of European science, served as an endless source of inspiration for the greatest people of Europe at the beginning of the Renaissance.
It should be noted that visitors of the Al-Farabi Centre will be able to get acquainted not only with the works of the great scientist, but also get to know Kazakh culture and traditions more closely. First of all, its activities will be aimed at developing a cultural and scientific dialogue between Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
