The opening of such centers is covered by the National Plan “Active Ageing”, developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of Kazakhstan, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the Ministry’s press service.
The Active Ageing Center is a leisure institution where older people can learn English, take computer literacy courses, do physical therapy, dance, etc. As a result, elderly Kazakhstanis are actively involved in society and their emotional state improves.
At the moment such centers exist only in several cities of the country.
Almaty was the first region in Kazakhstan to launch the active ageing center. It was opened in June 2018. By the end of 2019, 7 similar centers were launched in all areas of the city. The program was developed in accordance with the concept of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging, developed by the World Health Organization.
Experts on aging call the scaling of active ageing centers across the country a highly necessary and timely measure.
“One of the main tasks of our organization remains to maintain a healthy lifestyle of older people. I am very glad that active ageing centers will appear in all regions. Indeed, according to UN estimates, in 50 years every sixth inhabitant of the planet will be elderly. Therefore, it is extremely important now to begin work to ensure a quality, diverse and active life for older people”, Bayan Akhmetzhanova, chairman of the public association “Ardager”, shared her opinion.
It is worth noting that over the past 5 years, the proportion of people over 65 in the country has increased almost 2 times. As a result, in accordance with international standards, in 2017 Kazakhstan entered the group of countries with an aging population.
