Kazakhstan’s ‘KazAutoProm’ hits new record with 57% of the market

With LADA, Hyundai, KIA, Chevrolet, Skoda making a list of popular locally manufactured cars, Kazakhstan’s “KazAutoProm” has edged towards 57% of the market by the end of February 2019, according to the company’s data for two months of this year.

Data presented by the Union of Enterprises of Kazakhstan’s auto industry indicate 5 920 vehicles (cars, lorries, buses, special machines, trailers) totaling KZT39.2bn have been manufactured since the beginning of the year, a 39.2% rise in physical terms compared to last year: manufacture of cars has grown by 34.6%, that is 5 552, that of buses has seen a 6.8-fold increase (115), lorries – by 80.7% (150), and the decrease from 12 to 9 units has been recorded in special machines’ production and, in turn, the increase from 18 to 94 units has been recorded in trailers’ production.

“KazAutoProm” enterprises managed to increase its market share to up to 55.4% against last year’s 43.7%. In this February, the figure has grown to its historic maximum reaching 57% of the market. Demand for locally manufactured vehicles demonstrates a gradual growth, and Kazakh citizens’ expenses to buy our products have risen by 70% since the beginning of the year, with the main contribution of LADA brand’s lovers”,  “KazAutoProm” informed.

The citizens’ expenses to purchase locally-manufactured cars have made up KZT30.4bn in January-February, increasing last year’s figure by 69.8%.

In the segment of locally assembled cars, ASIA AUTO company occupies a dominating position, with 3 063 sold vehicles or 62.5% of the market. “SaryarkaAutoProm” has sold 1 638 vehicles (33.4%), followed by “SemAZ” (102 vehicles, 2.1%), “KAMAZ-Engineering” JSC (55 vehicles, 1.1%), “Hyundai Trans Auto” LLP (28 vehicles, 0.6%) and “Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan” LLP (12 vehicles, 0.2%).

The five in-demand brands of the vehicles assembled in Kazakhstan for the period of two months include Lada (2 260), Hyundai (1 469), KIA (602), Chevrolet (126) and Skoda (102), the list goes on with JAC (54), UAZ (21) and Peugeot (7).

Locally manufactured Lada Granta (893), Hyundai Tucson (649) and Lada 4x4 (543) are the top sales car brands, with Lada Vesta (500), Hyundai Accent (328), Hyundai Elantra (298), Lada Largus (256), KIA Rio (219), KIA Sportage (184 ед.) and Hyundai Creta (140) following the rating.

209 vehicles said to be purchased under the preferential car loans national program in the period from January to February 2019, accounting to 4.3% of the total locally manufactured vehicles. 

Auto industry enterprises’ cumulative contribution to the country’s GDP has risen by 47.2%, thus amounting to KZT39.2bn for two months of the present year, with the local car-building industry accounting for 25%. 

“KazAutoProm” is an industry-based union bringing together major participants of the auto industry in Kazakhstan. Established in 2015, the union’s participating enterprises account for over 60% of products of Kazakhstan’s auto industry, and hire over 40% of employers in the country’s auto industry. The union is accredited in expert councils on entrepreneurship under the six Ministries of Kazakhstan, and sit on the “Atameken” National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan and Kazakhstan’s Union of Machine Builders, partners with Russia’s National Association of Automotive Component Manufacturers.

The union represents the auto industry of Kazakhstan in the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers established in 1919. With its headquarter situated in Paris, OICA gathers national unions from 39 largest car manufacturing countries, and is the only industry-based association accredited in the UN, being directly involved in designing vehicle safety standards of the European Economic Commission.
