During the meeting, Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke about the results achieved by Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the press service of Akorda informed.
“Kazakhstan considers the CSTO as an authoritative and efficient structure. With the active and comprehensive support of the member states, the priorities of Kazakhstan in chairing have been successfully implemented this year”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The President of Kazakhstan noted that on a planned basis in the military sphere, activities were completed to reform the joint headquarters of the CSTO and to prepare for the full functioning of the CSTO Crisis Response Center.
In addition, the Head of State spoke about the results of the “Combat Brotherhood-2018” exercises held in Kyrgyzstan.
“At the meeting of the CSTO intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation, the Coordination Council for Standardization of Weapons and Military Equipment was also created”, the President of Kazakhstan said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that during the period of the chairmanship Kazakhstan’s initiative to adopt a universal code of conduct to achieve a world free of terrorism, which was approved by more than 70 countries, was implemented.
The Head of State also spoke about the results of joint work on countering cyber threats and combating illicit drug trafficking.
Speaking to representatives of the media, the President of Kazakhstan noted the friendly and constructive nature of the meeting held in the framework of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
“We have considered almost all the issues of interaction between the states in the interests of strengthening security. A constructive exchange of views took place on the main directions of the CSTO development and the current problems of international and regional politics. The results of fulfilling the priorities of the Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CSTO have been summed up”, the Head of State said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the CSTO member states highly appreciated the activities of Kazakhstan as the chairman of this international organization.
In addition, the President of Kazakhstan spoke about important decisions aimed at further strengthening cooperation within the CSTO and improving mechanisms for ensuring collective security.
“The main political document of the CSTO Summit in Astana was the final Declaration, which reflects the objectives and plans of the Organization for the coming period. A Statement “On Coordinated Measures Regarding Participants of Armed Conflicts on the Side of International Terrorist Organizations” was adopted. The work on the legal registration of the status of the CSTO partner and the observer at the CSTO, begun by our Belarusian colleagues, completed. A corresponding package of documents has been signed”, the Head of State said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also noted that as a result of the session, an Action Plan for the development of a system to combat illegal migration and an Action Plan for the development of a coordinated information policy in favor of the CSTO countries were approved.
In conclusion, the President of Kazakhstan informed the media about the transition of the CSTO chairmanship to Kyrgyzstan for the next intersessional period. The Head of State expressed confidence that the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan will be held at a high level and will make a significant contribution to the further all-round development of the Organization.
