"We have two dates - September 5-6 or October 10-11. August is the time of holidays and there will be little time to prepare the congress in early September. I would bow in favor of the October dates. Then, if you do not mind, we could consolidate on October 10-11, 2018", Senate Speaker Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev commented on the date of the Congress on the sidelines of the Secretariat.
"It was decided to hold the next Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions on October 10-11, 2018. Of course, the first reason is the three-year cycle of Congresses. Leaders of the Congress of World and Traditional Religions gather here in Astana. When choosing the date, the main attention was paid to various religious, confessional holidays, so that all participants could fully devote themselves to the work of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. Therefore, by consent, two dates were selected but one was approved (October 10-11, 2018 - IA)", the Deputy Minister said.
As Ye. Ashikbayev noted, the Congress itself began as a platform for dialogue between the religious leaders.
"The Fifth Congress was held in 2015 and it was devoted to the continuation of the dialogue by political leaders. These are the questions of terrorism, the issues of extremism, radicalism, the problems of climate change, which we heard today in the discussion. This dialogue will be continued and the Congress will build its work on consolidating the voices of religious leaders in advancing those decisions on the most pressing issues on the current agenda", the speaker said.
We remind that today Astana has held the XVI meeting of the Secretariat of the Congress of World and Traditional Religions, at which about 40 representatives of world and traditional religions were invited.
