In 2016, Nursultan Nazarbayev has made 21 foreign visits, received 15 foreign heads of state, governments and international organizations. In total, since the beginning of the year 49 international events and 81 bilateral visits were carried out.
As ex-Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov noted at the press conference on the results of 2016 year, Kazakhstan cooperates with major neighbors and strategic partners, Russia and China, and the past year has been marked with mutual visits at the highest level and multi-billion dollar agreements.
The strategic partnership with the United States is dynamically developing. At the end of the year, Kazakhstan citizens got the opportunity to travel to the US and to receive American visas valid for up to 10 years.
Active work on the development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations with fraternal countries and close neighbors in Central Asia is being conducted.
Cooperation with key countries of the Arab world, Asia, Africa and Latin America is being developed also.
Nursultan Nazarbayev's visit to Brussels took place in the beginning of the year. Here, he met with European Council President Donald Tusk. The sides discussed issues of cooperation of Kazakhstan and the European Union in political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
In Washington, at the headquarters of the Carnegie Foundation, Nursultan Nazarbayev met with public and political figures of the US. The President shared his views on the problems of the modern world and the role of our country in the international arena.
It is worth to note the President's meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in St. Petersburg in June this year. The parties had talks on the issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Organization, the prospects of further development of relations.
In addition, Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the negotiations in the extended format within the official visit to the Republic of Serbia in August. During negotiations, issues of realization of promising projects in several areas of common interest were discussed.
The Head of State met with Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping in autumn this year. The talks covered a wide range of bilateral issues, including the prospects of strengthening cooperation in trade, economic, investment, transit and transport, fuel and energy, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.
In October, the President and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary General Iyad bin Amin Madani discussed the progress of the international food facility. The sides discussed key aspects of bilateral cooperation in the framework of Kazakhstan's participation in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The sides also discussed issues of promotion initiated by Nursultan Nazarbayev international food fund, which includes 32 countries.
In Japan, the Head of State met with Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida фтв discussed various aspects of the Kazakh-Japanese cooperation. The Head of State noted that Kazakhstan and Japan have reached a high level of partnership and extending the negotiations.
In addition, in 2016 Kazakhstan hosted the meetings of President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Minister of Energy of the USA Ernest Moniz, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain José García-Margallo y Marfil, director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde, Chairman of the Japan Parliamentary Friendship League Takeo Kawamura, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.
